The Structure Editor incorporates a built-in text editor, this is used when editing Header or Trailer text. However for greater flexibility certain items of text can be sent to an external editor. The external editor is configured from the General options page, a common default is to use Windows Notepad (the path of which is normally C:\Windows\Notepad.exe or C:\WinNT\Notepad.exe) however any Windows application that accepts a filename as its first command-line parameter can be used.

Once text has been edited in an external editor it should be saved, and then on returning to the Structure Editor you will prompted whether or not to accept the changes made.
