The Structure Editor recognises a number of different file formats. Below is a summary of the formats available :-

The type of format used by a particular file is discerned by its file extension. *One notable extension to this is the ".jsp" extension which was used by both the JSP Tool and JSP-Cobol legacy tools. In this case the Structure Editor must be configured to interpret ".jsp" files in one or other format.

Internally all text is stored using the Unicode system, however for compatibility with earlier systems, the Structure Editor can accept and generated files using a number of other encodings, e.g. :-
The encoding can be separately set for structure file import, structure file export, and code generation using the File Format options page. This allows files to be converted between encodings, or for generated code to use a different encoding from the structure file. This is of particular use when working with international (non-ASCII) characters.
