Network Editor : User Interface : Menus : File Menu

An example of the File Menu is shown below:

The entries are described below:

New

A new diagram is created if this item is selected. When the application is first started a new diagram is displayed. If this item is selected when another diagram is already displayed then this will be cleared. If an existing diagram was modified when this item was selected then the user is prompted in order to determine if the amendments should be saved prior to displaying the new diagram. New diagrams do not have a name and when an attempt is made to save it the user will be prompted for a name.

Open...

Selecting this Menu item displays the standard Windows Open dialogue box. The Open dialogue box shows only those files with the Visual JSP COBOL file extension. The initial directory is the one from which the last file was opened. Once a diagram has been opened it is displayed in the Main Diagram Area and a status message indicating the success or failure of the operation displayed in the Statusbar Area. The diagram name is also displayed in the top of the frame.

Save

The current diagram is written to disk and a status message indicating the success or failure of the operation displayed in the Statusbar Area. If the diagram did not have a name then the user is promoted to supply one and to specify the directory where the diagram should be stored.

Save As...

The user is promoted to supply a new name and to specify the directory where the diagram should be stored. The current diagram is written to disk and a status message indicating the success or failure of the operation displayed in the Statusbar Area.

Recently Opened Files List

The 5 most recently accessed files are displayed here. When any of these are selected then this is automatically opened.

Print...

The standard Print Dialogue is displayed where various options (portrait/landscape) may be selected.

Exit

The application may be exited by selection of this Menu item. If the current document has any unsaved amendments then the user is prompted to determine if these should be saved prior to exiting or not.
